Rebels start strong in win over GMLOK baseball team

The Southland baseball team did most of its damage early on as it beat Grand Meadow-LeRoy-Ostrander-Kinglsand in the Riverland Complex Monday.

The Rebels (7-6 overall, 7-6 Three Rivers) drew three walks to start the game and Mike Goergen put them on the board with a two-run single. Dillon Heimer and Trent Reinartz added RBI-singles in the first inning and Southland led 6-0 out of the gates.

While they started out hot, the Rebels finished with just six hits.

“I don’t feel like we hit the ball real well, but we took advantage of what they gave us,” Southland head coach Scott Retterath said. “We’re a young team and we’ve come along way from the beginning of the season.”

Trevor Gomer struck out seven and allowed just two earned runs in six innings of relief for the Bulldogs (1-14 overall, 1-14 Three Rivers).
