Carolyn Hackel claims two first place finishes

The Austin girls track team took third place at the Austin Invitational Saturday in Austin.

The team notched a 95 and came in behind Rochester Century who won the invite with 201.75 points and Owatonna who placed second with 140.50 points. Lyle/Pacelli, who was also at the meet finished eighth with 1 point.

Austin’s Carolyn Hackel took a pair of first place finishes in the short races. She finished first in the 100-meter dash in a time of 13.7 seconds and then finished first in the 200-meter dash with a time of 26.91.

In the longer races, Madison Overby finished second in the 3200-meter run with a time of 11:44.01 and Haley Splinter was third in the 800-meter run in a time of 2:33.01.

In the relays, Austin finished first in the 4 x 200-meter relay with a time of 1:50.26.

On the boys side, Austin finished fifth with a score of 54 points. Rochester Mayo took the top spot with 169 points.

Zach Vierkandt was second in the 100-meter dash with a time of 11.99 seconds and Andrew Hagan had a shot put throw of 45 feet, 10 inches, good for second place.
