VERO BEACH, FLA. — The Riverland baseball team finished up its week in Florida with a 6-2 loss to the Ontario Blue Jays and a 1-0 loss to NIACC.

Austin grad Brady Klingfus had his best outing of his RCC career in the loss to NIACC (13-2 overall). Klingfus, a sophomore, allowed just three hits and three walks, while striking out five in six innings.

NIACC’s only run came off an RCC error in the fifth inning.

“Brady stepped up and really pitched well,” RCC head coach Scott Koenigs said.

The Blue Devils (7-4 overall) were expecting to see Ontario’s ‘B’ team as RCC had played until 10:45 p.m. the night before and the game was played at 9 a.m., brought Ontario brought out its regulars.

“We were hoping to get a lot of our reserves in that one, but then they came out with their main guys,” Scott Koenigs said. “It really wasn’t right.”

RCC had just seven hits between the two games as some of their freshman are still adjusting to college pitching.

“We’re pretty happy with where we are and when get going I don’t think we’re going to lose too many games,” Koenigs said. “We do have to throw more strikes and hit better, but a lot of that is because we play so many freshmen.”
