The Austin girls hockey team lost at Mankato East (17-3-1 overall, 12-2-1 Big Nine) 7-2 Saturday.
The Packers (9-14 overall, 5-9 Big Nine) held a 2-1 lead in the second period after Kennedy Thompson scored a powerplay goal that was assisted by Carley Grunewald and Vanessa Talamantes, but they struggled the rest of the way as the committed six penalties.
“They only got one power play goal, but when you have some of your players sitting with penalties, you get tired and it doesn’t help,” Austin head coach Denny Bray said.
Chloe Summerfield gave the Packers a 1-0 lead with a first period goal.
The Cougars out-shot the Packers 46-19.
