Francis Casper Haustein, 79

Francis "Frank" Casper Haustein, 79, of Lansing, died Sunday, June 2, 2002, at Good Samaritan Center, Albert Lea.

He was born April 24, 1923, in Wacauta, to Frances and Volga (Colobes) Haustein.

He was raised in Red Wing where he attended school.

He joined the Army, serving in Germany from 1944 until 1945 where he became a Prisoner Of War. Two purple hearts and a bronze star were among the numerous medals he received.

After World War II, he returned to Red Wing and married Betty Carol Kurrash of Austin on April 12, 1946, in Red Wing.

He began working at Geo. A. Hormel & Co. in 1947 and remained until his retirement in 1983. Frank and Betty lived on an acreage in Lansing for 50 years.

A member of Queen of Angels Catholic Church in Austin, Frank enjoyed hunting, fishing, playing cards, gardening, working on cars, and his family.

Survivors include wife, Betty, Lansing; daughters, Ann (Harold "Pete") Peters, Austin; Patricia Matter, Albert Lea; Barb (Harold "Bud") Miller, Austin; Victoria Legler, Chaska; Becki (Steve) Petersen, Lansing; 16 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; sisters, Gen Fick, Red Wing; Delores Harris, Red Wing; nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his daughter, Kathy; son, James; parents; twin sister, Frances; relatives and friends.

Visitation: 5 to 8 p.m., Thursday, June 6, 2002, with a 7:30 p.m. Parish Prayer Service at the funeral home and at the church for one hour before the service.

Service: 11 a.m., Friday, at Queen of Angels Catholic Church with Fathers William Becker and Paul Nelson co-officiating.

Interment: Calvary Cemetery with military rites by American Legion Post 91 and VFW Post 12.

Merle Peter Andersen, 72

Merle Peter Andersen, 72, of Austin, died Saturday, June 1, 2002, at VA Medical Center, Minneapolis.

He was born on July 4, 1929, in Austin, to Theordore and Ethel (McCorkill) Andersen.

On June 29, 1953, he married Donna Bakken in Austin.

Merle served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. Employed by Weyerhaeuser of Austin, he enjoyed fishing, gardening and his grandchildren.

Survivors include wife, Donna, Austin; sons, Rick Andersen, Tulsa, Okla.; Mark Andersen, Austin; Dan (Tamara) Andersen, Sand Springs, Okla.; Nicholas Andersen, Austin; daughters, Vicky (Mike) Arndt, Austin; Patti (Ed) Clarke, Tulsa, Okla.; six grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; brothers, Theordore Andersen, Lansing; Kenneth (Sadie) Andersen, Lyle; Paul (Trish) Andersen, Lyle.

He was preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Julie McGuire; brothers, Bill and Jack Andersen.

Visitation: 4 to 8 p.m., today, June 5, 2002, and one hour before the service on Thursday at the funeral home.

Service: 1:30 p.m., Thursday, at the funeral home with Pastor Randy Petersen officiating.

Interment: Oakwood Cemetery with military rites by American Legion Post 91 and VFW Post 1216.

Judith Lee Johnson, 66

Judith Lee Johnson, 66, of Mesa, Ariz., died April 18, 2002, in Mesa, Ariz.

She was born June 15, 1935, in Austin.

Survivors include brothers, Jerry, Bill and Chuck.

She was preceded in death by her father, Charles "Lefty" Johnson, and mother, Marjorie Potter Johnson.

Service: 11 a.m. memorial service, Friday, June 14, 2002, at Queen of Angels Catholic Church in Austin.

Interment: Oakwood Cemetery, Austin.

Lucy Eloise Wallace, 88

Lucy Eloise Wallace, 88, of Duluth, died Saturday, June l, 2002, at her home.

She was born July 30, 1913, in Minneapolis, to Ernest Loyd Wallace and Ella Olmsted Wallace.

She graduated from Miss Woods' School in 1936 and from the St. Cloud State Teachers' College in 1946. After teaching kindergarten in Neilsville, Wis., she moved to Austin and taught kindergarten at Neveln Elementary School for 39 years. She retired on May 18, 1978.

She was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Austin where she was active in her church and community affairs. In her retirement years, she traveled throughout the world with her circle of friends and retired teacher groups.

Until recently, she lived at Sacred Heart Care Center in Austin.

Survivors include nieces, Bonnie (Charles) Hough, Albany, Ga.; Marcia (John) Kohlhaas, Duluth; Sally (Mark) Hunner, Two Rivers, Wis.; nephew, William (Jan) Wallace, Houston, Texas; 15 great- nieces and nephews: 16 great-great- nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Dr. Martin Wallace and Dr. William Wallace.

Service: Memorial service at First United Methodist Church in Austin at a later date to be announced.
