Wayne Carl Bates, 97

Wayne Carl Bates, 97, of Austin, MN, died, Sunday, June 9, 2024 at St. Marks Lutheran Home.

Wayne was born on March 12, 1927 in Lansing, MN to William and Harriet (Simmons) Bates. He first attended the Ramsey school before finishing up school in Austin. He proudly served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He worked at Queen’s Products in Albert Lea as a welder. In his spare time he enjoyed hunting, carving, woodworking, and working on cars.

He was preceded in death by his son Randy, parents, siblings Elvin, Elma, Glenn, Hazel, Marie, Marvin, and Ella.

Wayne is survived by his Wife: Lois Bates, Austin, MN; Children: Jody (Cathy) Bates, Austin, MN, Karen Montage, Forest City, IA, Jeff Bates, Kanawha, IA; Grandchildren: Michele (Jason) Ree, Michael (Karen) Bates, Daniel Bates (Michelle), Hillary (Dan) Swanson, Lydell (Stacy) Tapp, Kiley Brown, James (Aubrie) Bates, Alissa Montag, Jenessa Ochoa, Lindsay Bates, Colbie (Layton) Sousa, Dalton (Rhiannon) Bates; 18 great grandchildren, many nieces and nephews.

A funeral service will be held at 11:00 am on Friday, June 14, 2024 at Clasen-Jordan Mortuary with Pastor Dan Mielke officiating. Visitation will be held for one hour before the service. Interment will be in Grandview Cemetery with military honors by Austin Post #91, American Legion and Olaf B. Damm Post #1216, VFW.
