Mower County 4-H, Riverland Community College, Nexus Cooperative, and Austin Community Education have partnered to offer the third annual Agriculture and Food Science Exploration (AFSE) Day on Wednesday, July 10.

This program is for youth in grades 6-9 and is an opportunity for anyone interested in science, biology, chemistry, engineering, computers, agriculture, mathematics, and food science. If youth enjoy being outdoors, having fun, and learning about new things, this is the event for them.

During the day, youth will learn about agronomy, animal science, and food science by participating in engaging tours, hands-on learning labs, and developing leadership skills.

Tours/activities include a corn/soybean/drone activity presented by Nexus Cooperative, Read’s Brown Swiss Dairy farm, a tour of Absolute Energy Ethanol Plant while learning about biofuels, and a Hormel Foods food science activity.

At each location, youth will participate in hands-on activities designed to help them apply what they’ve learned. Participants will also learn about leadership with State 4-H Ambassadors.

To register for this event, go to by June 26. Cost is $12 per participant, which includes a meal and a t-shirt.
