Blooming Prairie senior Shawntee Snyder made good on the perfect opportunity when she delivered a sharp line drive RBI single to give the No. 1 seeded Awesome Blossoms a 4-3 walk-off win over No. 4 Hayfield in a Section 1A quarterfinal in BP Thursday.

Snyder’s hit came in the bottom of the eighth and it came right after both teams left the bases loaded in the seventh inning.

I was just thinking, ‘hit it with the barrel, you’ve got to get one in,’” Snyder said. “I’ve been in this situation before.”

BP (17-4 overall) had trailed 3-0, but it scored three times in the bottom of the fifth to tie the game. Layla Lembke tied the game at 3-3 with a two-out RBI single.

Hayfield (13-9 overall) had taken a 2-0 lead when Jenna Christopherson singled in two runs with two outs in the top of the fourth and Kenna Rutledge made it 3-0 when she walked, stole and advanced two bases two score on a BP throwing error in fifth.

BP had already lost to Hayfield 13-0 in the regular season, but this time the Blossoms turned things around.

They beat us by a lot earlier in the season and it felt good to not back down and come back to beat them,” Lembke said. “

BP head coach Cam Rutledge said he liked the way senior pitcher Macy Lembke battled for the Blossoms, especially after falling behind early.

“That’s the thing about being a pitcher. You’ve got to do it on defense and offense. She wasn’t happy with her offense tonight, but she went to work on defense and helped to win us this game,” Cam said. “We didn’t want to play another game today. We have a lot of respect for Hayfield. They have great pitching and they hit the ball real well. We lost 13-0 to them a few weeks ago in what was probably one of our worst games of the year, so I was really happy with how we bounced back.

BP will now take on No. 6 Wabasha-Kellogg at Todd Park at 5 p.m. on May 28.
