Our opinion: Making our move

Getting your Trinity Audio player ready...

This week, the impending move to our new location has gotten a little more real. As of the time most of you are reading this, we will have just three more days before we leave the building the Austin Daily Herald has called home since the early 70s.

We’ve seen a lot of change come and go in those years and we’ve been proud to be a part of the growth and vibrancy of what downtown Austin has become. Like a newspaper should, we felt like we were at the heart of the community, both in how we covered events and the building itself.

Nevertheless, times change and so do we. Where before we once had the staff to utilize the building the way it was meant to, a building this size for eight people (when we’re all here) has made the move a common sense move.

On Tuesday, we will open our doors for the first time at our new location located at 1511 West Oakland Avenue. It will be the second day for us as we use Monday to set up shop and make sure we’re ready for you.

While the location of this move will be a change for us all, it will have no impact on our dedication to covering community and sporting events. We invite the public to please come down and visit us at our new location along one of Austin’s major roads through town.

This certainly isn’t the end, but a new path on a dedicated journey to bring news to the people of Austin, Mower County and the surrounding area.
