Clair F. Allen, 94

Clair Francis Allen, age 94, of Austin, Minnesota, passed away on Monday, May 6, 2024, at the Stacyville Community Nursing Home in Stacyville, Iowa. Clair was born on April 2, 1930, in Grand Meadow Township to Charles and Laura (Overkamp) Allen. He graduated from Grand Meadow High School in 1948. In 1951, Clair enlisted in the United States Army. He served our country as a Private First Class, stationed in Germany, during the Korean War. Clair was honorably discharged in 1953. On January 30, 1954, Clair was united in marriage to Bonita Olson at Queen of Angels Catholic Church in Austin. The couple was blessed with seven children. Clair worked for Hormel for 40 years as a smoke house operator until his retirement in 1986. He enjoyed spending time with family and friends, woodworking, and traveling. Clair loved all sports and stayed current with whichever sport was in season. He was known as a leader, trustworthy, and responsible; Clair was well known and respected in the community. He was very gifted in math and would provide financial advice to his children when they were growing up. His work ethic was admirable, and his children inherited this trait. Of most importance was the love and care Clair provided to Bonita until her passing in 1995. Clair volunteered with the Mower County Historical Society. He was a proud supporter of the Grand Meadow Superlarks. He was also active on the Grand Meadow High School reunion committee and the school’s historical committee. Clair was a member of the Eagles, VFW, and the American Legion.

Clair is survived by his children, Victoria (Curtis) Anderson of Effingham, Illinois, Mark (Teresa) Allen of Becker, Minnesota, Daniel Allen of Owatonna, Jeff Allen of Owatonna, Cheryl Allen of Albert Lea, Linda Allen of Albuquerque, New Mexico, and Elaine (Bruce) Barrett of Owatonna; 14 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; brother, Jerry (Ruth) Allen of Kasson; and special friend, Jeanette Ludemann. He was preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Laura; wife, Bonita; brothers, Kenneth and Delmer Allen; and sisters, Dorothy Blanchard, Bernice Schaefer, and Carol Cross.

The family extends a special thank you to the Stacyville Community Nursing Home staff and Dr. Ross for their wonderful care of Clair.

The funeral service for Clair will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, May 15, 2024, at Worlein-Hoff Funeral Home in Austin. The visitation will be held one hour prior to the service. Interment will be in Calvary Cemetery, Austin. Memorials are preferred to the Grand Meadow School District or the Mower County Historical Society.
