Mike Ankeny named grand marshal for Austin’s Independence Day Parade 2024

The Austin Area Chamber of Commerce has announced that Mike Ankeny will be the grand marshal for this year’s Independence Day Parade.

Ankeny’s selection is a testament to his contributions to both the business community and the cultural fabric of Austin.

“Mike Ankeny embodies the spirit of Austin – a dedicated leader, a successful entrepreneur, and a passionate supporter of the arts,” said Elaine Hansen, president of the Austin Area Chamber of Commerce in a press release Friday. “His unwavering commitment to our community makes him the perfect choice to lead this year’s Independence Day Parade as Grand Marshal.”

Ankeny’s dedication and service have been recognized through various avenues, including his recent honor of receiving the Austin Area Chamber of Commerce’s prestigious Lifetime Achievement Award.

As a Mower County Commissioner and a member of the Discover Austin Board, Ankeny has consistently demonstrated leadership and commitment to enhancing the quality of life in the region.

Beyond his professional endeavors, Ankeny is also the owner of one of the Ankeny Mini Marts, a thriving business that has served the local community. Additionally, his passion for creativity shines through his unique hobby as a lamp artisan, where he transforms found objects into stunning lamps, adding a touch of artistry to everyday life.

The parade will take place at 11 a.m. on July 4. It will traverse Main Street from Eighth Avenue NW southward to Marcusen Park.
