Kaye grew up on a farm near Lake Norden, SD with her five siblings. She graduated from Lake Norden High School in 1957 and attended Dakota State College in Madison, SD, completing a one-year course in secretarial business. She worked in an office at Tech High School in St. Cloud, MN for several years. Degree by attending night classes at Mankato State College, graduating Magna Cum Laude. Kaye served 32 years with five different superintendents and three different interim superintendents. She always enjoyed working with each superintendent.

Kaye was an active member of AAUW, the Business and Professional Women’s Association, the Library Board, and others. She served as the Chairperson of the Public Library Board when the new library was built in 1996. She was an avid reader her entire life, so this was a perfect position for her. She was a devout member of Our Savior’s Lutheran Church since moving to Austin. Kaye and her sister, Maye, along with other family members enjoyed traveling to 35 foreign countries and many trips to New York City to attend Broadway Plays over the years.
