Herman Miller, 96

Herman Miller, age 96, of Austin, Minnesota, passed away peacefully on Sunday, April 21, 2024, at Good Samaritan Society – Comforcare in Austin. Herman was born on February 11, 1928, at home in rural Johnsburg, Minnesota to Matt and Katie Miller. He graduated from Adams High School, Adams, Minnesota in 1946. On September 13, 1950, he married Valeria May at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Meyer, Iowa. Their marriage was blessed with 12 children. Herman was a lifelong farmer and was a longtime member of the Forte-Milers Barbershop chorus and Knights of Columbus.

He is survived by his wife of 73 years, Valeria Miller; 12 children, Craig (Deb) Miller of Celina, Texas, Dennis Miller of Lyle, Minnesota, Rodney (Shirley) Miller of LeRoy, Minnesota, Lynn (Sherilyn) Miller of LeRoy, Minnesota, Robin (Joyce) Miller of LeRoy, Minnesota, Elaine (Ken) Williams of Taopi, Minnesota, Brenda (Ed) Theobald of Stacyville, Iowa, Karen (Brian) Mandler of Rochester, Minnesota, Connie Hart of Apple Valley, Minnesota, Betty (Mike) Johnson of Stacyville, Iowa, James (Becky) Miller of Riceville, Iowa, and Carmen (Jeff) Pitzen of Kasson, Minnesota; 40 grandchildren, 51 great grandchildren, and several step great grandchildren; one brother, Marvin (Jeanette) Miller, Adams, MN, and two sisters, Gertrude Gilles, Waterloo, Iowa, and Ann Schaefer, Riceville, Iowa, and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Matt and Katie Miller; brothers, Vincent Miller and Elmer Miller; sisters, Angela Hackenmiller and Joanne Milbrandt; and granddaughter, Michelle Miller.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, April 26, 2024, at St. Edward’s Catholic Church in Austin. The visitation will take place on Thursday, April 25, 2024, from 4:30 – 7:30 p.m. at Worlein-Hoff Funeral Home in Austin and continue for one hour prior to the service at church on Friday. Interment will be in Calvary Cemetery in Austin, Minnesota. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred, and will be donated in Herman’s honor. The family wishes to thank Comforcare staff and Mayo Hospice staff for the excellent care they provided for Herman. Worlein-Hoff Funeral Home of Austin is assisting the family with arrangements.
