The State Fire Marshall has been called in to investigate a fire call at the Sterling Motel Wednesday afternoon.
According to Austin Fire Chief Jim McCoy, the Austin Fire Department was dispatched to a call for smoke in a room at the Sterling Motel at around 2:38 p.m. Wednesday.
When firefighters arrived on scene, smoke was seen coming from a room at the motel. The fire was extinguished by the first crew on the scene and the room was ventilated along with adjacent rooms that were smoke filled.
McCoy indicated that smoking is most likely the cause and that damage estimates come to about $20,000 to the structure and $8,000 to the contents.
