Thumbs up to broadband: For several years Mower County has been looking for ways to solve the broadband challenge in the county in order to solve the problem of underserved rural areas. Thanks to a pair of grants from the state, the county and now start working through partnerships with Arvig and Spectrum to achieve that goal.

Thumbs down to wildfire conditions. The wildfires that scorched parts of Minnesota near Waseca and throughout the rest of the state is indication that caution needs to be practiced as we roll closer to spring. The state is still experiencing drought and it’s worth keeping in mind the caution needed and just how quickly things can spiral out of control.

Thumbs up to the Hayfield girls basketball team. It might have been a rough end to the season for the Hayfield girls basketball team, losing to Goodhue in the Section 1A title game Thursday, but they showed just how classy of an organization they are when the team visited first-grader Nella Johnson on the night before the game, who was undergoing surgery.
