Marie F. Quast, 97

Marie F. Quast, age 97, of Eau Claire, Wisconsin, and formerly of Lyle, Minnesota, passed away on Wednesday, March 27, 2024, at Heritage Assisted Living in Eau Claire. Marie Frances Butts was born on August 14, 1926, in Wells, Minnesota, to George and Gertrude (Stenzel) Butts. She attended Wells area schools and graduated from Lyle High School in 1943. After graduation, Marie attended normal school and then began teaching at a country school near Lyle. On August 17, 1946, Marie was united in marriage to Edson Quast at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Minneapolis. The couple moved to Edson’s family farm near Elkton where they farmed together and started Quast Poultry; they were certified egg producers for the State of Minnesota. Marie and Edson moved to Lyle in 2000 and enjoyed many winters in Hawaii. During their time in Hawaii, they were members of the Maluhia Lutheran Church in Waianae, Hawaii. Marie enjoyed and was active in several community and church groups, most notably, Lyle Lioness, Lyle Study Club, Mower County Extension, Our Saviors Bible study, and Ruth Circle. She also enjoyed reading, crossword puzzles, shopping, and sewing.

Marie was preceded in death by her husband Edson and daughter, Gayle Radford. She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Dawn and Joe Stienessen of Eau Claire, Wisconsin; and their daughters and families; Sarah Stienessen and Michael Smith, Ada, and Margot of Seattle, Washington; Laura and Michael Bruinooge, Ari, Afina, and Elsa of Hudson, Wisconsin; Anne Stienessen and Bradley Howe, Maggie of Seattle, Washington; Ruth Stienessen and John Stech, Henrietta, and Francesca of White Fish Bay, Wisconsin; son-in-law Bob Radford and his wife, Brenda Radford of Yukon, Oklahoma; Kara and Scott Graham, Alison, and Hudson of Yukon, Oklahoma; Mary and Sean Satterlee, Parker, and Olivia of Norman, Oklahoma; and a best friend of 80 years, June Nelson of Adams, Minnesota.

The funeral service for Marie will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, April 2, 2024, at Worlein-Hoff Funeral Home Chapel in Austin. The visitation will take place one hour prior to the service. Interment will be in St. John’s Lutheran Cemetery, Elkton. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to Our Saviors Lutheran Church, Lyle.
