Calvin Lady

Calvin Craig Lady of Grand Meadow (formerly Adams) passed away at Grand Meadow Senior Living on February 22, 2024. Cal was born on June 20, 1988, in Rochester, Minnesota to Debra Pike and Craig Lady. He spent most of his life in Adams, Minnesota being raised by his mother and father Donald Shaver. His brother Jonathan, born when Cal was six, brought great joy to his life.

Diagnosed with cerebral palsy at an early age, Cal had many health challenges. Though he was in a wheelchair without speech, no one who was lucky enough to receive one of Cal’s smiles or hear his infectious laugh ever forgot it. Cal loved and was loved by all who got to know him. Through his many surgeries and illnesses, he always had a smile for those around him. His biggest smiles, however, were saved for his mom and his brother that took such good care of him throughout his life. He was an innocent soul who saw only good in people and the world around him.

Cal attended school in Austin, Minnesota, and graduated in 2007. While in school, he enjoyed his classmates, teachers, and paras. He participated in several proms, and he liked riding the bus. He loved the outdoors, campfires, and a little rock music. Following high school, Cal worked at Cedar Branch DAC in Adams where he loved spending his days with friends and staff. He moved into Grand Meadow Senior Living in 2018. The family thanks the wonderful team there that cared for Cal. You were a blessing! Thanks also to St. Croix Hospice who provided care in Cal’s final days.

Calvin was welcomed into heaven by his great grandparents, grandmothers Nancy Pike and Bev Lady, and his father Don Shaver.

Cal is survived by his mother Debra Shaver (and his favorite puppy-Daisy) of Adams, his brother Jon (Cathy) Anderson, his father Craig (Kelly) Lady, and his grandfather Dean (Janice) Pike, all of Austin. Many aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends also mourn his passing. We were blessed to have Cal in our lives. He gave far more than he received. He taught us about unconditional love, complete joy and goodness, and strength beyond measure. Fly high sweet Cal!

A celebration of Cal’s life will be held at a later date.

The Adams Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
