The Austin Bruins hit a rough patch for stretch in the second period and it proved costly as they lost to the St. Cloud Norsemen (11-6-0-2 overall) 5-1 in Riverside Arena Friday night.

SC scored four straight goals in an eight-minute stretch in the second to go up 5-1 and neither team scored again. The Bruins (14-7-1 overall) had just tied the game at 1-1 on a goal by Alex Laurenzena that came off a perfect pass from Austin Salani.

“It was a tough weekend for the boys, but I think it was a learning experience and as long as we can keep it as a learning experience, I think we’ll be alright,” Austin head coach Steve Howard said. “We got a lot of guys in (the locker room) that know how to win and we just need to get back to winning.”

The Bruins didn’t have their primary goalie Trent Wiemken this weekend as he was out with an injury. He is expected to be back in the near future.

Matthew MacArthur had 12 saves on Friday and Nicholas Kurtiak stopped six of the seven shots he saw.

“It’s a comforting thing to have Trent in the net, but MacArthur battled at times and I”m sure there were some shots he would like to have back,” Howard said. “Their goalie was really good.”

Austin had a six-on-three advantage for a 40 second stretch when it pulled its goalie on a power play late in the game, but it wasn’t able to get to the net.
