During Tuesday morning’s Board of Commissioners meeting, Solid Waste Officer Marcus Thompson gave an update on the new addition to the recycling center.

Thompson told commissioners that the final stages of the exterior ground work are completed and that the structure itself is just getting started, a process he said should take around six weeks to complete. The goal remains to have construction completed by spring of next year.

In July, commissioners approved a bid from Joseph Company for $629,000 to build the add-on, which will be utilized for electronics recycling. In previous years, the county has hosted a one-day event at the Mower County Fairgrounds to collect electronics, however, this new addition will allow for drop off and recycling throughout the year.

Thompson also said they were currently working on finalizing a payment structure, though nothing has been finalized as of yet.
