The Austin City Council on Monday evening unanimously voted to adopt a resolution authorizing special liquor licenses enacted by special legislation during the 2020 legislative session.

This would allow the city to “issue an on-sale wine license and an on-sale malt liquor license to a person who is the owner of a junior hockey league team or to a person holding a concessions or management contract with the city or the team owner, for beverage sales at the Riverside Arena.”

Under the resolution, wine and malt liquor may only be served to individuals attending events at the arena for consumption on the premises.

The council also voted for a prorated refund of $12,800 to bars and restaurants with on-sale liquor licenses during the meeting. The decision was made to help bars and restaurants affected by the COVID-19 pandemic.

This affects on-sale liquor, on-sale wine, clubs, 3.2 beer and Sunday on-sale licenses.
