The Austin Public Library will take another step toward reopening its doors to the community on Monday, July 6, when the library will be open for “express browsing” and computer use during the hours of 1-4 p.m. Monday through Friday.

Patrons are asked to follow a few specific guidelines:

  • Keep visits to no more than 30 minutes;
  • A mask must be worn in the library at all times and six feet of social distancing will be expected;
  • Use the self-check machines, although staff will be available to help as needed; and
  • Persons under the age of 12 will not be allowed in the library without adult supervision.

The library will also return to its standard due-date schedule with items being due three weeks from their checkout dates. Check-out periods for items from other libraries may vary. Renewal of items and other solutions can be used to assist patrons who may not be able to return items on time. Patrons with questions can contact the library for assistance.

Curbside service has been very successful and will continue as long as staffing and logistics allow. Currently, the hours for curbside pickup are 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday and 10 a.m. to noon Saturday. Items must be requested in advance; requests can be made online at austinpubliclibrary.org or by calling the library at 507-433-2391.

Also beginning July 6, a limited number of adult computers will be available for use without an appointment for those 16 years and older during the new open hours only. The maximum time per day for computer use will continue as one hour per person, but no appointment is required. No children or teen computers will be available at this time. Meeting rooms and study rooms will also remain closed.

Online and phone information and help will continue to be available from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday. Check out the library’s website for the most up-to-date information and a full list of services and programs available. Summer programming information is also available on the website and is posted in the windows on the southwest corner of the building.

Watch for future updates on hours and services. Thank you for your patience and consideration as we work hard to provide services and keep our community safe!
