Mower hits 50 confirmed COVID-19 cases since March 19

Increases seen in surrounding counties

 

Mower County has had 50 confirmed cases of COVID-19 since March 19, according to numbers released by the Minnesota Department of Health on Thursday.

According to Mower County Health and Human Services Division Manager Pam Kellogg, of the two new cases reported Thursday, one resides with a family member that previously tested positive while the other appears to be community spread.

Neighboring counties of Olmsted, Dodge, Steele, Freeborn and Fillmore also reported increases on Thursday, bringing their totals to 399, 28, 85, 52, and 16, respectively.

The state had 523 new cases on Thursday, bringing the total since March 6 to 13,435, according to the MDH. Of those, 9,136 are no longer in isolation.

As of Thursday, 498 Minnesotans were hospitalized with COVID-19, including 203 in intensive care.

The MDH also reported 25 deaths on Thursday, bringing Minnesota’s total to 663. Of those, 537 have been among residents in long-term care or assisted living facilities. Most of the deaths have occurred in Hennepin County, which has reported 441 deaths since March 21.
