A Mankato man is currently in custody following an abduction at the YMCA at the Austin Community Recreation Center Monday.

According to a report, Austin police received two separate calls reporting that a woman had been removed against her will from the Rec Center and placed into a black sedan with Iowa plates.

The sedan headed eastbound and was last seen near the east side bars according to the report. Approximately 20 minutes later, the vehicle was located in the north lot next to East Side Lake with both subjects.

The woman appeared shaken and after further investigation police discovered that the woman was indeed kidnapped and that this was not a random act. Police believe there is no further threat to the public.

“They did know each other, but were not currently in a relationship,” said Chief David McKichan.

Police arrested the male subject, Keshaun Baker, 19, of Mankato, who faces possible charges of kidnapping, threats of violence and domestic abuse; however, the case is still under investigation.

“We’re very appreciative of the citizens who recognized the situation and called us to investigate,” McKichan said. “That was the key piece.”
