Collision occurred at partially controlled intersection

No injuries were reported after a school bus and a vehicle collided Monday morning.

According to Austin Police Chief David McKichan, Austin police officers responded to an accident at 7 a.m. on Monday at the intersection of Fourth Avenue and Second Street Northwest, a partially controlled intersection. A preliminary investigation indicated the school bus was heading south on Second Street Northwest and attempted to cross Fourth Avenue Northwest when it was hit by an eastbound Buick Lucerne.

McKichan said the intersection did not have a stop sign for the Buick, but the bus did have a stop sign.

The Buickā€™s driver, an 85-year-old female, told police she took evasive action prior to the crash, but did not have time to avoid the collision. The bus driver, Steven Graves, 67, of Austin, indicated that he stopped for the stop sign.

Three students and two student aids were aboard the bus at the time of the accident.

Graves was cited for failing to yield the right of way, McKichan said.
