Lawrence “LD” Dale Schewe, 77, of Austin, Minnesota, passed away Thursday, Jan. 30, 2020, at Mayo Clinic Hospital, Saint Marys Campus-Rochester.

Lawrence was born April 30, 1942, in Albert Lea, Minnesota, the son of Lawrence and Stella (Nelson) Schewe. He attended schools in Elkton, Minnesota, and Austin. Lawrence was united in marriage to Betty Stevens on June 22, 1963, in Austin. He was a life-long Austin area resident and was a member of the Church of Christ. Lawrence was a farmer for most of his life and also a self-employed welder. He loved welding, putting things together, and drawing. Lawrence was also an avid collector of toy tractors and enjoyed going to tractor shows. He will be dearly missed by his family and friends.

Survivors include his wife, Betty Schewe of Austin; two brothers, Dennis (Geralyn) Schewe of Austin and Rick (Cheryl) Schewe of Austin; two sisters, LaVonne Johnson of Coeur d’Alene, Idaho, and Marlene Johnson of Austin; brother-in-law, Dean Lukes of Austin; sister-in-law, Deanna Schewe of Blooming Prairie, Minnesota; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Lawrence and Stella Schewe; brother, Keith Schewe; sister, Charlotte Lukes; and brother-in-law, Curtis Johnson.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Feb. 8, 2020, at Keys to Life Apostolic Church in Austin. Visitation will take place one hour prior to the service on Saturday at the church. Interment will be in Oakwood Cemetery in Austin. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to the Youth for Christ or St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
