Caregivers coming together for support

Published 5:31 am Saturday, January 11, 2020

Our caregivers support group meets the first and third Thursday of each month at 10:30 a.m. at the Mower County Senior Center. We will be meeting again this month on Jan. 16.

This is a great opportunity to take some time out for yourself, as you will find that you are not alone. Topics at these meetings vary, giving everyone an opportunity to learn new things. We also take this time to discover new ways of coping with concerns you may have. It takes tremendous strength to be a caregiver, which is why it is so important to take time out for you.  All of our meetings are confidential and set in a nonjudgmental and welcoming environment. We welcome you and hope to see you there. If you have any questions about this meeting or the caregiver program feel free to call Melissa at 1-507-433-3462.

The Senior Center is signing up now and starting a nutrition program for anyone 60 and over. There will be a short form you will need to fill out in the office at the center then get a punch card for the Senior Center food. This is a government program with the only requirement of being 60 years old or older. The punch card will allow you to get one complete meal every day at no cost. This is for everyone in the community that is 60 or older.

Each month you will turn in your used punch card and be issued another one for the upcoming month. When you get your punch card each month there will be an opportunity for you to give an anonymous donation toward the program. The Senior Center will be participating in this program in their coffee shop and will continue to bring you the soup and sandwich option but include other options daily like the Tuesday and Thursday hotdish. The coffee shop is open from 11:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.

Feel free to come in at your convenience to fill out the short paperwork to get your punch card. This paperwork will only need to be completed once per year to qualify. Starting Jan. 20, your punch cards will start to work in the coffee shop. You do not need to be a member to participate.

You may not be old now, but if you’re lucky, one day you will be. We look forward to seeing you at our many programs at the Senior Center. There is always a lot to do here. Don’t forget our coffee shop where every day you can have homemade soup for $1 and sandwich for 50 cents. Monday, we will be serving meatballs in the coffee shop. We are also having hotdish two times a week Tuesday we are having tator tot hotdish and Thursday we will be having chicken alfredo for only $2.

You are always welcome at the center. See you here!
