HAYFIELD — Blooming Prairie junior Allison Krohnberg wasn’t fazed by a late miss as she bounced back and scored the game-winner for the Awesome Blossoms in a 40-38 win over Hayfield in the Hayfield Holiday Tournament Friday.
Krohnberg had air-balled a go-ahead three-point attempt with under a minute remaining, but she found redemption when she scored from the right block with eight seconds left and Julia Worke came up with a steal on Hayfield’s ensuing possession.
It was Worke who dished to Kronhberg, who finished with 10 points and 10 rebounds for the game winner.
“I saw Julia on the backside and she was looking at me, so I went to the hoop,” Krohnberg said. “She gave me the ball and then I took my chance at the rim and went for it. I didn’t let the (three point miss) affect me. I played my game.”
Hayfield (3-6 overall) trailed for much of the night, but it grabbed a 37-36 lead when Rachel Pack connected on a three-pointer with 5:10 left in the game. Both teams struggled on offense down the stretch.
The Vikings trailed 27-19 at the break, but they hung around for much of the first half by swarming BP and forcing turnovers. The Awesome Blossoms grabbed the lead when Maggie Bruns knocked down a three-pointer on a dish-out from Megan Oswald to make it 20-17 BP.
Lila Grosneth had 11 points and five rebounds for Hayfield and Oswald had five points, 14 rebounds and three assists for BP.
