The cause of a Friday evening house fire in Austin is still under investigation.
According to Austin Police Chief David McKichan, Austin police and firefighters responded to a call of a house fire at about 6 p.m. on Friday at 704 Fifth Ave. NW. A woman and her two children were in the residence at the time. The woman told first responders that she was asleep when a neighbor woke her up and told her the house was on fire.
Austin Fire Chief Jim McCoy said the fire originated in the kitchen, though the cause was not cooking related.
No injuries were reported. The cause has not yet been verified, though McCoy said foul play is not suspected.
The house suffered an estimated $50,000 in damage, according to McCoy.
