When it comes to athletic competition, Blooming Prairie senior Karson Vigeland is a Jack of all trades.

Vigeland has been active in trap shooting, football, basketball and baseball in BP, but he recently made his commitment to focus on football as he committed to play at Division II Concordia-St. Paul with a partial athletic scholarship.

Vigeland, who played corner back and wide receiver for the Minnesota Class A state champion Awesome Blossoms, has been the team’s top shutdown corner for the past three years and he started to see college teams recruiting him this past summer.

Vigeland is heading to C-SP as a projected outside linebacker, where he will spend time covering tight ends.

“They were looking for bigger, longer athletic kids who can also cover. They said I fit that position and I am A-OK with that,” Vigeland said. “I was looking at a college that felt like home to me and small class sizes was something I was looking for. The football fit me and the classroom fit me and that’s where I want to go and pursue my academic and athletic career.”

Vigeland picked off three passes and broke up 16 more this season for BP, but despite taking on the best Class A teams in the state, Vigeland’s biggest competition came in practice against his teammate and Minnesota State commit Gabe Hagen, who played wide receiver and defensive end for BP.

It’s now become likely that Vigeland could matchup against Hagen in a Northern Sun contest in the not to distant future.

“Just covering Gabe in practice is quite the competition. He’s fast, he’s quick and he can definitely catch the ball. I credit him to making me better,” Vigeland said. “I’m excited for that matchup in college, that will be one for the books.”

Vigeland always believed that he had the ability to play football in college and his confidence grew when coaches began reaching out to him before this season began. He’s excited about his future at C-SP, but Vigeland is also not forgetting about the fact that he helped BP win its first ever Prep Bowl title in school history.

“The one word I can say is (the state championship) was just awesome not only for me, but the whole team. We all put in a lot of work and our coaches are proud,” Vigeland said. “We’re proud of our coaches. It is incredible and awesome.”

The Golden Bears went 6-5 overall this past season.
