Where can you find four live music shows and a live dance production in November? In Austin, of course.

The month kicks off with art-rock-jazz fusion Galactic Cowboy Orchestra at the Paramount on Saturday, Nov. 9.

Galactic Cowboy Orchestra may be best described as Bela Fleck meets Rush, goes out to breakfast with John Coltrane and plays golf with Jeff Beck.

Band members include Blooming Prairie native Lisi Wright on violin and vocals, noted Twin Cities’ picker Dan Neale on guitars and vocals, bassist John Wright — known for his progressive rock band US and Rochester native Alec Tackmann on percussion and vocals. Tickets on sale now.

“It’s been a great year for the Part Time Ex’s,” says Jonathan Stowell, singer and guitarist. After releasing an eponymous album in May 2019, the five rockers will return to the ArtWorks Center on Saturday, Nov. 16.

Stowell, an Austin High School alumnus (1999) and Nick Tobar (2003), have been leading the Part Time Ex’s for the last several years along with percussionist John Hicks, Ben Hering on trumpet, and Benjamin Greenwald on bass. This will be the fourth performance by the band at the Austin ArtWorks Center. Admission is $5, there are no advance ticket sales. Cash beer and wine bar available to Austin Area Arts members and their guests.

Get ready for an energizing and undeniably danceable female Latin powerhouse, LADAMA Project, to take the Paramount stage on Wednesday, Nov. 20. The show is part of the World Music series presented in partnership with the City of Rochester and Riverside Concerts. The four core members of LADAMA are Lara Klaus, Daniela Serna, Mafer Bandola and Sara Lucas. They draw on their personal histories — their roots are in Brazil, Colombia, Venezuela, and New York City — to celebrate and expand the idea of cultural expression, with the help of bassist Pat Swoboda. You could catch LADAMA Project in several Minnesota venues this fall for $18-$30. Austin Area Arts is able to offer the show free because of grant funding. No advance tickets.

If you are ready for a more free-form night of live music, check out the ArtRocks Open Jam Session on Friday, Nov. 22, at the Austin ArtWorks Center. At this monthly jam session, musicians meet and play with other musicians from around the area. The house band will ‘back’ individual jammers and allow for groups of jammers to get up and play. No need to play or perform; listening is an art, too. Admission is free. Donations welcome. Cash bar available to Austin Area Arts members and their guests.

Finally, the traditional holiday ballet, “The Nutcracker,” will be presented by Jane Taylor Dance at the Paramount Theatre on Friday, Nov. 29. Free will donation at the door.
