Grain dryer damaged in Saturday fire

No injuries were reported after a grain dryer caught fire on Saturday in Elkton.

According to Mower County Chief Deputy Mark May, the fire was reported at about 11:50 a.m. on Saturday at 20781 680th Ave. in rural Elkton. The reporting party, Matthew Carpenter, said the fire was spotted in a section of the grain drier as it was being emptied. The drier contained about 4,000 bushels of corn.

The Grand Meadow and Adams Fire Departments responded to the scene and extinguished the fire. The scene was cleared at about 1:30 p.m.

The amount of damage is unknown at this time. Firefighters at the scene said there was nothing suspicious about the fire and that foul play is not suspected.
