Get ready for Christmas in the County

The Mower County Historical Society is getting ready for the holidays with its annual special/fundraising event Christmas in the County, which will take place Friday and Saturday, Dec. 13-14, 2019.

Jumpstart your holiday baking and eating at the pre-sell bake sale from 3-5:30 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 13. The main feature will again be Christmas cookies selling for $5 a dozen. Lefse, breads, pies, candies, and goodies galore will also be available for purchase. The sale will be in the Administration Building at the Mower County Historical Society.

The Main Event will be from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday with most activities taking place in the Pioneer Building. Activities for the kids include: cookie decorating, rock painting, pine cone bird feeders, Christmas card crafting and much more. There will be horse drawn wagon rides around the fairgrounds. You can also ring the bell and blow the train whistle on the 1004 Steam Engine. The food stand will include homemade chili, hot dogs and chili dogs.

The annual raffle drawing will take place at 3 p.m. on Saturday. Tickets sell for $1 each and the grand prize is a beautiful quilt made by Virginia Bissen entitled “President’s Pride” along with many other prizes. There is also a huge silent auction with over 100 gift baskets for the bidding. You can bid on items Friday afternoon as well as all day Saturday. Last bids will be accepted at 3:30 p.m. on Saturday and winners announced by 4 p.m.

Santa and Mrs. Claus will also be visiting from the North Pole.

Christmas in the County has become a holiday tradition, so bring the whole family and enjoy an “Old Fashioned Christmas” at the Historical Society.

All proceeds from this special event/fundraiser will benefit the Mower County Historical Society, a non-profit, 501(c)3 organization.
