Walter “Wally” Joseph Bina, 76, of Austin, Minnesota, passed away Wednesday, Oct. 25, 2019, at St. Marks Living in Austin.

Wally was born on May 23, 1943, in Davenport, Iowa, to Aloysius Sr. and Helen (Cook) Bina. He went to grade school in Davenport, then attended Pine City High School in Pine City, Minnesota. On Aug. 30, 1960, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy. While in the Navy, he obtained his GED. On July 2, 1964, Wally went into the U.S. Navy Reserve, where he served until his honorable discharge on Oct. 12, 1966. He worked for General Motors in Michigan for three years. On June 14, 1997, Walter married Jacqueline (Engbrecht) Martin at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Austin.

He spent all of his adult life as a roofer working for various companies including Charley’s Roofing. Walter’s hobbies over the years consisted of reading, raising children, and socializing in coffee shops; his favorite coffee shop was the Steer Truck Stop and Sports Restaurant. He also liked to play pool and loved to go hunting and fishing. Walter will be missed by all that knew and loved him.

Survivors include his wife, Jackie Bina of Austin; children, Boyd (Pat) Bina of Vadnais Heights, Minnesota, Anthony Bina of Tennessee, Joezette (Ken) Havemeier of Cambridge, Minnesota, Tara (Todd Oestreich) Thomas of Stacy, Minnesota, Jerid Swanson of Mounds, Minnesota, Jason Bina of Austin, Jamie (Nathan) Florence of Kentucky, Amber Martin of Austin, Marissa (Dominiqut Farrow) Perez of Austin and Cody (Nicole Rieman) Perez of Austin; 21 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; siblings, Joan Sanders, Margaret (Johnny) Haug, Barbara Romp, Aloysius Bina Jr., Julia Reed, Helen Schmidt, Theresa Sawatzke, Charley (Kim) Bina, David Bina, Michael (Patty) Bina, Daniel (Sue) Bina, Rosemary (Gordon) Lynch and Mark (Denise) Bina; sister-in-law, Sandy Bina; and many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Aloysius Sr. and Helen (Cook) Bina; sister, Florence “Sue” Bina; brothers, Thomas Bina and Raymond Bina; and brothers-in-law, Tom Romp, Roger Reed and Allen Schmidt.

A celebration of life will be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 2, 2019, at Cedar Valley Services in Austin with Pastors Dale Christiansen and Kim Bina officiating. A reception will be held immediately following the service. American Legion Post 91 and VFW Post 1216 will hold military honors promptly at 1 p.m.
