WINONA — The Austin boys soccer team cemented itself as one of the top programs in Minnesota when it beat Rochester Lourdes 3-2 in the Section 1A title game in Thursday night.

The win gives the Packers their third straight trip to the Minnesota Class A State Boys Soccer Tournament, and they’re fourth in program history.

“That’s crazy,” Austin head coach Jens Levisen said. “To think 10 years ago today we played in our first section final and we won that. Here were are 10 years later and we just won our third in a row. That has a lot to do with how much time these guys put in during the offseason and buying into how we want to do things.”

Poe Reh, Lucas Evenson and Andres Garcia all scored in the win.

This was the eighth time in the last 11 years that Austin and Lourdes have squared off in the Section 1A title game. During the run of three titles, the Packers have defeated Lourdes.

Austin took third place in each of the last two Minnesota Class A State Boys Soccer Tournaments and it has won the Big Nine in three consecutive seasons.
