The Austin girls soccer team pushed the top team in the Big Nine down to the late minutes, but Mankato West (12-1-2 overall, 9-1 Big Nine) had one last push as it topped the Packers 4-1 in overtime in Mankato Monday.
Austin (5-8 overall, 4-5 Big Nine) took a 1-0 lead in the first half when Hope Dudycha scored on a free kick with 23:43 left in the first half. That lead lasted until the Scarlets scored to tie the game at 1-1 with 16:43 left in the second half.
West added three goals in OT to score the win.
“We played really hard tonight, but with the few subs that we had and the hot weather, West did a good job of running us down,” Austin head coach Jake Levisen said. “We kept our heads up and we kept fighting, but West ended up winning it.”
