Elizabeth M. (Maloney) Vaith, 92, of Austin, Minnesota, passed away Tuesday, Sept. 24, 2019, at Sacred Heart Care Center.

Betty was born Feb. 10, 1927, in Preston, Minnesota, to Eugene and Mary (O’Connor) Maloney. She moved to Austin at a young age, attended St. Augustine Grade School, and graduated from Austin High School in 1945. On Oct. 25, 1947, she was united in marriage to Edward J. Vaith. They lived in Austin, where they raised five children. Betty began working at the Hormel Company on Dec. 26, 1946, and retired on May 31, 1982, having worked for the company for 36 years.Betty was a member of St. Augustine Catholic Church. She enjoyed baking, reading, and spending time with her family.

Survivors include her children, Vicky (Tim) Pease, Steve (Roni) Vaith, Jane (Denny) Jorgenson, Julie (Larry) Thomas and Mary (Jon) Klapperick; grandchildren, Aindrea (Will Hudspeth) Pease, Zac (Christine) Pease, Emily (Jesse) Ree, Jason Vaith, Jarid (Kelsey Ritchie) Vaith, Katie (Ted) Vera, Tony Jorgenson, Maggie (Nick) Paris and Michael Vaith; 11 great-grandchildren; sisters, Kay Hahn and Mary Ann Maloney; brothers, Vince (Nancy) Maloney and Ray (Mary Jo) Maloney; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Edward Vaith; brother, Jack Maloney; sister, Jeanne Lauritzen; and brothers-in-law, Bob Lauritzen and Jerry Hahn.

A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. on Monday, Sept. 30, 2019, at St. Augustine Catholic Church with Father James Steffes officiating. There will be a 4 p.m. CCW rosary on Sunday, Sept. 29, 2019, at Mayer Funeral Home, where friends may call from 4-7 p.m. Visitation will continue for one hour before Mass on Monday at the church.
