Mark Edward Kemmerick, 62, of Austin, Minnesota, passed away peacefully on Saturday, Aug. 17, 2019, at home surrounded by his family.

Mark was born on Aug. 22, 1956, in Austin to Joseph and Dorothy (Wolf) Kemmerick. Mark grew up on a farm south of Austin, attended Queen of Angels Grade School and Pacelli High School, graduating in 1974. He went on to complete the carpentry program at Austin Vo-Tech. For over 20 years, he worked with his mentor, Bruce Ulland, building many houses throughout Austin. In 1999, he started working as a carpenter at Mayo Clinic Health System-Austin, where he worked until his death.

In July 1980 Mark, welcomed his son, Adam, into the world. Mark was so proud of Adam and cherished every moment they spent together. Mark loved being a dad and a grandpa. He married the love of his life, Joan Carlson, on Sept. 8, 2001, at St. Augustine Catholic Church in Austin. Mark enjoyed gardening, grilling, mushroom hunting, loved classic rock, the Vikings, spending time in Door County, playing scrabble with Adam, fishing trips with friends to northern Minnesota, vacations with family and his new truck! He treasured the evenings on the patio with Joan and the cats, particularly his first cat, Mickey. He appreciated nature, the simple joys of life and admiring the stars. He was known for his kindness, his great sense of humor and his beautiful smile. He lived his life as he wanted.

Mark is survived by his loving wife, Joan; son, Adam (Breanna); grandchildren, Mason, Finley and Brody, all from Austin; mother, Dorothy Kemmerick, Austin; siblings, Norma Holmes, Exton, Pennsylvania, Ryan (Patricia), Rochester, Minnesota, Randy (Judy), Seymour, Missouri, Sheila (Tom) Brownlow, Rochester, Brenda Kemmerick, Minneapolis, Minnesota, and Susan (Bill) Horner, Spring, Texas; sister- in- law, Susan Klouman (Sam), Stamford, Connecticut; brothers- in- law, Rick Carlson, Northwood, Iowa, and John (Andrea) Carlson, Indianola, Iowa; his cats, Emilio and Romeo; and aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father, Joseph, in 2018; and his niece, Ann, in 1989.

A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. on Thursday, Aug. 22,2019, at St. Augustine Catholic Church. Friends may call from 5-7 p.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 21, 2019, at Mayer Funeral Home and for one hour prior to the service on Thursday at the church.
