Dorothy M. Smith, 89, of Austin, Minnesota, passed away Friday, Aug. 2, 2019, at Our House Senior Living.

Dorothy was born March 10, 1930, to George and Mary (Lagas) Twedell in Mower County. On April 2, 1949, Dorothy was united in marriage to Edwin Smith in Mason City, Iowa. They later moved to Austin and made their home.

Dorothy worked as a cook at Burr Oak nursing home and many other jobs. She relished cooking, baking and socializing with friends. A real highlight was the parties with her sisters and sisters-in-laws, celebrating birthdays and holidays. Dorothy loved decorating for the holidays; even after the numerous surgeries that made walking difficult, nothing slowed Dorothy down when she was determined to do it. She will be missed by all who knew her.

Dorothy is survived by numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, George and Mary (Lagas) Twedell; husband, Edwin; five sisters, Agnes Lee, Ethel Voss, Mary Sheeley, Mildred Anderson and Carol Getchell; and two brothers, George Twedell and Raymond Twedell.

A memorial service will be held at noon on Thursday, Aug. 8, 2019, at Mayer Funeral Home with Father James Steffes officiating. Friends may call one hour prior to the service on Thursday at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred. Condolences may be left online at www.mayerfh.com.
