Best Bets: Last chance to jam at the Bandshell

Published 8:20 am Thursday, August 29, 2019

With school around the corner, this Friday marks the last chance to attend Jammin’ at the Bandshell.

This popular event, which will be held from 7-9:30 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 30, at Bandshell Community Park, allows musicians and singers of all ages to perform two songs with back-up band Ventura Highway. There’s a sign-up sheet to get on the list. If time allows, musicians and/or vocalists can perform again later, but it’s important to give everyone time to shine.

If you’re inspired to perform but didn’t bring along an instrument, don’t worry; the band will let you play their instruments.

Ventura Highway members putting on the event are Scott Jasmin, Scott Anderson, Mark Conway, Pete Wangen and John Steffel.

Those who wish to participate are strongly encouraged to bring four to five music charts for the songs they want to perform. Another option is to send the song information in advance via the Jammin’ at the Bandshell Facebook page, www.facebook.com/jamminatthebandshell/. The Facebook page also contains details and updates in case of any questions about the weather on Jam nights.

Those who participate are welcome to bring lawn chairs, blankets, coolers with treats, beverages, sunblock, etc. No food or beverages will be sold on the premises. This is a free event, but a free will offering will be collected to help with production costs.

The ArtRocks Open Jam Session will return to the Austin ArtWorks Center on Sept. 20. For more information, go to www.austinareaarts.org or call 507-434-0934.
