Best Bets: A country breakfast on the farm; Free airplane rides

Published 8:25 am Thursday, June 13, 2019

Waltham farmer Gene Anderson will host the Mower County Farm Bureau’s annual Mower County Breakfast on the Farm from 7:30-11:30 a.m. Saturday, June 15.

Now in its 13th year, 2019 marks the fifth time Anderson has put on the breakfast with the Mower County Farm Bureau. Prior years were 2006, 2009, 2012 and 2016.

“I’ve milked cows all my life,” Anderson said. “I’ve always been a believer in promoting dairy. The big thing is to educate people from the town and city about where their milk comes from.”

The menu consists of “Chris Cakes” pancakes, sausage, milk, juice and coffee.

Other activities include a scavenger hunt, petting zoo, horse drawn wagon rides, milking “Star” the cow, and many more activities to educate kids and parents.

The cost is $3 per person with family rates of $12. Children aged six and under are free. Breakfast will be served rain or shine.

Over 700 people attended last year’s event, according to Anderson. He hopes to see 700-800 people this year.

“It’s a good learning experience for everybody and gives them a chance to socialize with farmers,” he said. “Various groups and organizations will have displays set up and kids can see machinery and animals they don’t get to see everyday.”

Anderson’s farm is located at 30111 620th Ave. in Waltham.
