The Austin Police Department is reminding residents to secure their bikes after a recent uptick in reports of stolen bicycles and scooters.

According to Austin Police Capt. Todd Clennon, the APD has received roughly six reports of stolen bicycles and scooters per week for the past few weeks. As summer vacation begins, more residents will be using bikes and scooters to get around town. Clennon advised to make sure these items are secured with locks when in a public setting.

Clennon also said the APD has seen an increase in reports of vehicle windows being broken, most likely by BB guns. The APD has received approximately 10 reports in the past two weeks. The acts appear to be random and no items were reported stolen from any of the vehicles.
