The No. 2 seeded Hayfield softball opened strong as it beat No. 7 seeded United South Central (5-13 overall) 12-4 in a Section 1A West elimination game in Hayfield Monday.

The Vikings (12-9 overall) plated eight runs in the bottom of the first inning.

Caitlyn Hendrickson struck out 10 in the win and she also had a double and two RBIs. Rachel Pack added a double and two RBIs for the Vikings.

Hayfield will host No. 3 Blooming Prairie at 5 p.m. Tuesday. The Vikings swept BP in the regular season.
