The Mower County Relay for Life has taken one more step toward this year’s event after holding it’s annual kick-off on May 16.

Garrett Stadsvold, American Cancer Society community development manager, said the event went well, and that there is plenty of time and room for more to become involved.

“We feel like we got a good presence,” Stadsvold said of the event, which took place at Godfathers. “Godfathers is part of Relay for Life for Mower County and the employees were really engaged.”

“Overall , some team captains came in to get their packets, but either way I think it went well,” Stadsvold continued. “But, there’s always more room for growth.”

So far, six teams have signed up including the Mower County Sheriff’s Department.

Now that the kick-off has been taken care of, the work begins to ensure everything comes together as this year’s Relay for Life moves downtown to Main Street from the Mower County Fairgrounds where it’s been the last several years.

Those that are interested can now sign-up by visiting main.acsevents.org/site/TR/RelayForLife/RFLCY19NOR?pg=entry&fr_id=93041.

Here they will find all the information necessary for teams wishing to become involved.

“Hopefully more can sign up,” Stadsvold said. “They can sign up all the way up to the event.”

Stadsvold urges those thinking about becoming involved to check out this year’s event and support the continued fight against cancer.

“Really come out for the event,” he said. “… come out to the event and support it.”

This year’s relay will be July 26 with the start slated for 4 p.m. with the survivor’s reception. Opening ceremony will be at 6 p.m. with the luminary ceremony at around 8:30 p.m. and 9 p.m.
