Marie M. (Graves) Brown, 81, of Austin, Minnesota, passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family on Friday, May 3, 2019, at Mayo Clinic Hospital, Saint Marys Campus-Rochester.

Marie Margaret Jorgenson was born on April 1, 1938, in Austin to Nels and Alice (Carew) Jorgenson. She grew up in Austin and graduated from St. Augustine High School in 1956.

On Feb. 1, 1958, Marie married Gilbert Graves at St. Augustine Catholic Church in Austin. The couple moved to Elkton, Minnesota, where Marie helped Gilbert on their farm. They raised eight children together. Gilbert passed away in October 2009. Along with helping on the farm, Marie worked at Meadow Manor in Grand Meadow, Minnesota, as a nursing assistant from 1970 until she retired in 2000.

On March 31, 2012, she married Carroll Brown at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Austin, and they lived in Austin. She was a member of St. Augustine Catholic Church in Austin and Sacred Heart Church in Adams, Minnesota, where she was an active Circle member. Marie belonged to the Red Hat Club, TOPS, and the Elkton Project Club.

She loved to travel and go on many beloved trips with her family and friends, including trips to Las Vegas, Nevada, Ireland, Germany, Denmark, Canada, and all across the United States. Marie loved her family and cherished her grandchildren. She enjoyed cooking for her family and friends and spending time with them. Marie also enjoyed quilting and cross-stitching. She was well loved and will be deeply missed by all who knew her.

Survivors include her husband, Carroll Brown of Austin; children, Cheryl (Dick) Nold of Oronoco, Minnesota, Sheila (Bill) McBride of Preston, Minnesota, Sylvia (Larry) Churchill of Grand Meadow, Christopher Graves of North Mankato, Minnesota, Ann (Jerry) Johnson of Brooklyn Center, Minnesota, Peter (Tracy) Graves of Blooming Prairie, Minnesota, Joey Graves of Elkton and Kevin (Kathryn) Graves of St. Peter, Minnesota; 19 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; brother, Jim Jorgenson of Austin; sister, Sue Jorgenson of Bloomington, Minnesota; sister-in-law, Bonnie Jorgenson of Austin; brother-in-law, Ray (Pat) Graves of Elkton; Carroll’s children, Michelle (Gene) Caleb of Urbandale, Iowa, Lori (Brian) Ronayne of Wyoming, Minnesota, and Judi (Larry) Brown-Rohm of Lindstrom, Minnesota; Carroll’s brothers, Ozie (Jan) Brown of Austin and Duane (Joan) Brown of Florida; Carroll’s sisters, Dorothy (Dean) Naylor of Butte, Montana, and Leila (Dan) Schmidt of Austin; and many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Nels and Alice Jorgenson; first husband, Gilbert Graves; sisters, Shirley Williamson and Betty Engelman; brothers, Nels Jorgenson and Dick Jorgenson; and several in-laws.

A Mass of Christian burial will be held at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, May 8, 2019, at St. Augustine Catholic Church in Austin with Father James Steffes officiating. Visitation will be held from 4-8 p.m., with a rosary service at 7:45 p.m., on Tuesday, May 7, 2019, at Worlein Funeral Home in Austin and will continue for one hour prior to the service on Wednesday at the church. Interment will take place at a later date in Sacred Heart Catholic Cemetery in Adams. Memorials can be directed to the recipient of donor’s choice.
