Five area golfers earn a trip to state golf meet

Five area golfers punched their ticket to the state meet at the Section 1A meet in Willow Creek in Rochester Thursday.

Southland sophomore Max Schmitz was the top golfer in the boys tournament as he finished with a two-day score of 150 to win the meet over Fillmore Central’s Jake Fishbaugher, who shot a 152.

Other area state qualifiers in the boys field were Blooming Prairie’s Collin Alwes, who took fourth, Hayfield’s Keegan Bronson, who took fifth to earn his second straight trip to state and LOGM’s Grant Vikre, who took fifth.

In the girls meet, Hayfield’s Macy Holtan qualified for state when she took eighth place with a two-day score of 20

The Blooming Prairie boys took second as a team with a two-day score of 713 and Faribault Bethlehem Academy won the meet with a 687.
