Betty Elaine Meyer, 85

Betty Elaine Meyer, 85, of North Mankato, Minnesota, formerly of Waltham, Minnesota, died peacefully on Saturday, May 18, 2019, at Oak Terrace Assisted Living in North Mankato.

Betty Elaine (Ziemer) Meyer was born Feb. 12, 1934, to Harold and Margaret (Musolf) Ziemer in Waltham.  She was baptized on July 8, 1934, and confirmed May 15, 1948, at First Presbyterian Church in Hayfield, Minnesota.

She attended school in Waltham and graduated from Hayfield High School in 1952.  After graduating from high school, she was secretary at the Lincoln School in Austin, Minnesota.

She was united in marriage to Edwin K. Meyer on Aug. 21, 1955, at Trinity Lutheran Church in rural Waltham. They lived on the Meyer family farm near Waltham for 40 years. Betty farmed side by side with Edwin until he passed away in 1995. They had two dear children, son David and daughter Barbara. Betty belonged to the Trinity Lutheran Church, actively participating in Trinity Ladies Aid. She was a Sunday school teacher, Girl Scout leader, election judge and a member of the Home Extension Club. She enjoyed her many friends, belonging to the Birthday Club and Saturday morning coffee group. After moving from the farm to Hayfield in 1995, she worked 12 years at the Hayfield School lunchroom.

Betty was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and a friend to many. She enjoyed flowers and yard work, going on bus trips, concerts, and plays. She loved sending cards to relatives and friends and decorating her house for every season and holiday. She was an active sports fan, cheering on the Minnesota Twins and Timberwolves, and enjoyed watching ice skating.

She is survived by her son, David (Christine) Meyer of North Mankato; daughter, Barbara (Michael) Gebhardt of Waltham; sisters, JoAnn (Harlan) Buck of Hayfield and Pamela (Merle) Steward of Indialantic, Florida; six grandchildren, Renae (Justin) Danberry, Lance (Emily) Meyer, Andrew (Katie) Meyer, Richard (Amy) Gebhardt, Randy (Katie) Gebhardt and Ryan Gebhardt; and five great-grandchildren, Brody Danberry, Kirby Danberry, Finnley Meyer, Julian Gebhardt and Landon Gebhardt. Betty was preceded in death by her parents; husband; brother, John; and infant sister, Sharon.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, May 25, 2019, at Trinity Lutheran Church in rural Waltham. Visitation will be held from 4-8 p.m. on Friday, May 24, 2019, at Worlein Funeral Home in Austin and will continue for one hour before the service on Saturday at the church. Burial will take place in the Trinity Lutheran Church Cemetery following the church service.
