Alumni Update: Hart and Murphy wrap up their college careers

Lyle grad Jordan Hart had his college baseball career come to an end when Minnesota State University Mankato lost to Oklahoma Baptist 8-5 in the NCAA Division II Regional Tournament May 17.

Hart went one-for-five in his final game.

Hart hit .383 on the season for the Mavericks (39-15 overall) and he compiled 19 homers, 12 doubles, four triples and 72 RBIs.

Austin grad Phillip Zynda recently wrapped up his freshman season at Central Lakes Community College. Zynda hit ,297 with with two homers, five doubles and 38 RBIs for Central Lakes (24-23 overall). Zynda had an on-base percentage of .491.


Softball

Austin grad Sydney Murphy had her college softball career come to an end after the University of Wisconsin La Crosse was swept by No. 3 University of Saint Thomas by scores of 4-0 and 5-0 in the NCAA Division III Super Regionals last week.

Murphy went one-for-six in her final day as an Eagle and UWL, which finished with a record of 29-20 overall.

Murphy hit .255 with six doubles and 10 RBIs in 49 starts for UWL this season.


Track and field

A pair of Austin grads competed in the outdoor Northern Sun Conference track and field meet in Duluth recently.

Austin grad Pat Hagan, who is a sophomore at the University of Sioux Falls,  took 10th in shot put with a distance of 14.44 meters, he was 12th in discus with a personal best throw of 46.18 meters and he was ninth in the hammer throw with a distance of 47.96 meters.

Carolyn Hackel, a junior at Minnesota State University in Mankato, took seventh in the 100-meter hurdles with a time of 14.35 seconds and she took 11th in the long jump with a distance of 5.38 meters.

Austin grad Madison Overby, a junior at the University of North Dakota, took fourth in the 1,500-meter with a time of 4:34.06 run at the Summit League Championship in Macomb, Illinois recently.

Overby finished 14th in the 5,000 meter run with a time of 17:42.71.
