The Austin softball team lost a defensive battle against Winona (3-0 overall, 3-0 Big Nine) as it lost 1-0 in eight innings on the road Tuesday.

Austin freshman Jaeda Bekaert allowed just four hits and she struck out four, but the Winhawks won the game when Elle Koehler had a walk-off RBI with one out in the eighth.

“We played great defense. We just have to continue to work on our offense. Our defense was solid and got us out of a lot of jams,” Austin head coach Lisa Lage said.

Hannah McMasters and Madisyn Retterath each had two hits for the Packers (1-4 overall, 0-2 Big Nine).
