Robert W. Christgau, 65, of Austin, Minnesota, died peacefully Thursday, April 25, 2019, at St. Mark’s Lutheran Home from leukemia.

Robert Wayne Christgau was born July 11, 1953, in Rochester, Minnesota, to Maynard “E.M.” and Esther (Boyd) Christgau. He graduated from Austin High School in 1971 and enlisted in the U.S. Army alongside his brother, Richard. After his military service, he went to work for the Geo. A. Hormel Company. He was married to Brenda McLeod, whom he loved very much. Bob enjoyed nature, nature shows, walks in the woods, and relaxing after work. Bob also spent time finding the humor in things.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Esther; and his wife, Brenda, in 1993. Bob is survived by his children, Terra Oleson, Watertown, South Dakota, John (Candy) Mills, Austin, James Christgau, Sioux Falls, South Dakota, and Matt Christgau (Jenny Kraft), Adams, Tennessee; 12 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; father, E.M. (Judy) Christgau, Iowa; brothers, Ron (Purrine) Christgau, Florida, Richard (Jackie) Christgau, Austin, and John Christgau, Austin; and nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, May 1, 2019, at Clasen-Jordan Mortuary with the Rev. Shari Mason officiating. Austin American Legion Post 91 is in charge of military rites. Visitation will be one hour before the service on Wednesday at the funeral home.
