Two Men and a Truck moving company is encouraging people to make their mother’s proud by donating items to the “Movers for Moms” drive.

The “Movers for Moms” donation drive started in Lansing, Michigan, where the company is based, and has since become a nationwide event. The event collects items that are donated to mothers living in women’s shelters across the country.

This year marks the fifth year the Two Men and  a Truck location in Rochester has participated in the donation drive, according to Rochester Two Men and a Truck Sales and Marketing Manager Alexis Burdick.

“One of Two Men and a Truck’s core values is to give back to the community,” she said. “Two Men and a Truck was founded by a mother, whose two sons were out on the truck.”

Two Men and a Truck are seeking items suggested by the women’s shelters that get the donations. The items they need are:

  • Diapers (sizes 4, 5, and 6) and Pull-Ups
  • Baby Food/Children’s Snacks
  • Journals
  • Laundry Soap
  • Cleaning Supplies (All-purpose Cleaners, Clorox Wipe, Brooms/Dust Pans, Mops/Pails)
  • New Twin Size Sheets
  • Bath and Hand Towels
  • Gift Cards (for purchasing items or for activities)

“No gift is too small,” Burdick said. “Any or all comfort products are a big help”

Two Men and a Truck will be collecting items until Monday, May 6. Items will be delivered to women’s shelters the Friday before Mother’s Day. Donation locations can be found at https://twomenandatruck.com/movers-for-moms.

“The whole purpose of the program is to have these women living in these shelters to have something to open on Mother’s Day and bring a little more joy to them,” Burdick said. “Every little bit goes a long way. Mother’s Day is supposed to be a joyous occasion and if you’re living in a shelter, you probably have hard times going on. We’re trying to make it a happier time.”
